Differences between the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra

The biggest difference between the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra are their engine choices -- and it even impacts all the other factors down the line. THe Toyota Tundra has a choice of two V8 engines, a 4.6L and a 5.7L, whereas the F-150 offers a 2.7L EcoBoost V6, 3.5L EcoBoost v6, 3.5L Ti-VCT V6, and 5.0L Ti-VCT V8.

These engines, combined with the F-150’s light, tough aluminum body, give the F-150 its advantage in terms of max towing and payload capacities. The Toyota Tundra can tow a very impressive 10,500 lbs, but the F-150 beats it handily with a max capacity of 12,200 lbs. Payload is a whole other story, though, with the F-150 crushing the Toyota’s 2,080 lbs. with its 3,300 lbs. max.

All of this becomes even more impressive when you compare the MPG of both trucks. The most efficient Tundra struggles to get to 19 MPG on the highway, where the F-150 cruises at a 26 MPG rating.
