Drivers looking for a midsize SUV have long been able to find their match in the competent and confident Ford Edge. 2019 Ford Edge Fuel Economy

The 2019 Ford Edge offers better mileage than the previous year according to EPA estimates (though actual mileage numbers will vary depending on driving styles and conditions). With all-wheel drive this model will offer 21 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway, which increases to 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway for front-wheel drive models. The high-performance, all-wheel drive equipped 2019 Ford Edge ST model is rated for 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

Why has Ford Edge mileage improved for 2019?

Several new efficiency measures have given the 2019 Edge an advantage over the previous year. A new eight-speed automatic transmission and active transmission warm-up offer better transmission performance right out of the gate. Auto Start-Stop, deceleration fuel shut-off and exhaust gas re-circulation also help the engine to run more efficiently while active grille shutters, underbody shields, and air curtains also act to streamline this crossover. The Edge also features the first ever all-wheel drive disconnect on a Ford vehicle.

How does all-wheel drive disconnect work?

All-wheel drive disconnect is a new feature for Ford vehicles that allows all-wheel drive equipped models to alternate between two-wheel and four-wheel driving automatically depending on conditions. This system evaluates driving conditions based on multiple factors, and delivers the best option to drivers. This means that all-wheel drive will kick in automatically when conditions are slippery or muddy, but only two-wheels will be used on dry highways to conserve fuel.
