In our extremely connected world, it is important to be able to use the internet almost anywhere you go, whether you are streaming music or making calls hands-free on the daily commute or need to check on a contract from the work site. Many new vehicles from Ford and other manufacturers are available with built-in hotspots, but can you get Wi-Fi on a 2010 Ford vehicle or later? Or is it just the newest models that offer it? Starting now, it is possible to upgrade an older Ford model to have Wi-Fi thanks to FordPass SmartLink.

Can You Get Wi-Fi on a 2010 Ford vehicle?

Just a few years ago, drivers were not able to get Wi-Fi hotspots in their vehicles, but FordPass SmartLink will change all that. Ford vehicles from the 2010-17 model years will now be able to get a simple device that will allow owners to use their phones as a keyfob, find their vehicle’s location, get diagnostic information, and try a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Where can I get the FordPass SmartLink?

This new connectivity feature to allow even more smartphone-to-vehicle integration in older Fords is now available at select dealerships. It should be available throughout the United States by the middle of 2018. We aren’t sure yet if Houston Ford in Pine River MN will offer this program, but contact a member our team to learn more.

How much will FordPass SmartLink and Wi-Fi cost?

Vehicle owners will have to pay to have this feature installed, and then will have a $16.99 per month fee for 24 months, which covers the cost of the device and smartphone-to-vehicle telematics services. This device will also come with 1 gigabyte or 30 days of complimentary data with a Verizon 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. After this trial period, Ford owners who are also Verizon customers can add this device to their existing accounts, or anyone can create a new account to pay for data.

This excellent new connectivity feature demonstrates how Ford is staying at the front of technology and connectivity. If you would like to test drive a new Ford vehicle near Brainerd MN, or find out more about getting Wi-Fi on your 2010 or newer Ford vehicle we would love to help you out!
