Here in Minnesota, this is Ford Truck country. The landscape can be brutal and unforgiving, which makes the powerful Ford pickup truck lineup essential for handling the brunt of all four seasons. The most popular of the lineup, the Ford F-150, has been making waves in recent weeks. It was just named as one of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Picks of 2016, and its forward-thinking engine and fuel system for the 2016 model has earned it praise as well. But that’s not all. There has been chatter about the possibility of a Ford F-150 hybrid truck looming on the horizon. Continue reading for what we have heard so far.

Ford CEO Mark Fields discussed the future of the company in an interview with National Public Radio. In the interview, he confirmed that Ford is currently developing an electrified F-Series that will be built around a conventional hybrid model. The rear-wheel drive hybrid system is expected to be ready by the year 2020, which is closer than it sounds! Ford has really been pushing sustainability and fuel economy in recent years with its EcoBoost engines and use of recycled materials to create its vehicles, so the development of a hybrid line of pickup trucks makes sense. The automaker plans to have forty percent of its model lineup electrified in the near future, and including its top-selling truck in that forty percent is almost a foregone conclusion.

Why hybrid vehicles are beneficial

Hybrid vehicles hold a number of long-term benefits. They have such a high fuel economy that drivers end up spending less money fueling up, and that savings can add up to a pretty penny down the road. Hybrid vehicles also benefit the environment with their lower greenhouse gas emissions, helping to ensure that this planet stays in good condition for future generations. The news of Ford hybrid truck development is good for everyone, and we here at Houston Ford are excited to see the results!
