BraunAbility MXV features

Ford has teamed up with BraunAbility, which is the world leader in vehicles designed for wheelchair access, to create the BraunAbility MXV. The world’s first wheelchair-accessible SUV is being built on the 2016 Ford Explorer to help give the vehicle a sturdy foundation. The quality and dependability of BraunAbility mobility vehicles and the adventurous spirit of the Ford Explorer – that’s an exciting combination!

The interior space of the BraunAbility MXV is maximized in order to allow for plenty of room for comfortable wheelchair navigation. Wheelchair users have the option of driving the vehicle themselves from a wheelchair or riding as a passenger. The dimensions of the vehicle are as follows:

  • 55-inch usable side door opening height
  • 28.5-inch usable ramp width
  • 58-inch interior height at the vehicle’s center
  • 59-inch interior height for the driver and passenger
  • 55-inch interior floor length behind the front seats
  • 59.5-inch interior width at the B-pillar

The BraunAbility MXV will feature a 3.5-liter V6 engine and will be capable of achieving an estimated 17 city miles per gallon and 24 highway miles per gallon. The SUV also delivers an estimated 5,000 pounds of maximum towing capacity.
