The Best Diesel Trucks of 2019

There are a lot of great diesel trucks on the market these days. Every year, truck-makers make strides in designing more advanced and efficient diesel powerhouses. Let’s check out some of the best diesel offerings on the market in 2019.

The 2019 Ford F-150 offers six different engine options, one of which is an admirable 3.0-liter V6 Power Stroke turbodiesel. This diesel powerhouse pumps out 250 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque from just 1,750 rpm. The power of diesel ups the tow capacity of the 2019 F-150 to a full 11,400 pounds.

Diesel is a naturally efficient fuel, so it helps this engine to achieve a nice 25 combined miles-per-gallon of fuel-economy. Guilt over environmental destruction is further reduced by the fact that this engine produces just 412 grams of CO2 per mile.

2. 2019 Ford Super Duty F-250 and F-350

The powerful 2019 Ford Super Duty offerings come with two engine options, the upper-end of which is a mind-expanding 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel. This machine pumps out 450 horsepower while getting an incredible 935 pound-feet of torque.

The diesel powerhouse ups maximum towing capacity of the 2019 F-250 to 18,500 pounds. If that wasn’t shocking enough, the 2019 F-350 gets upped to the potential of an incredible 35,000 pounds (when properly equipped with the 5th wheel/gooseneck setup). Don’t fret about keeping those massive loads steady, either; driver-activated exhaust braking helps things stay firm, while engine braking helps ease the strain on the brakes and corresponding brake wear.

The V8 diesel engine is forged from compacted iron graphite in the interest of keeping weight minimal yet construction still durable. At this point, we wouldn’t be surprised if it was forged in the fires of Mount Doom, considering the mysterious powers with which it seems imbued. A single turbocharger nestled between the cylinder heads above the engine block grants faster access to exhaust pressure.

3. Ford Ranger?

Though the 2019 Ford Ranger currently comes with only one engine option in the U.S. (and it’s not diesel), spy shots have captured what is believed to be a diesel-powered Ford Ranger being tested out on some backroads near Deerborn, Michigan (home of Ford headquarters).

The Ranger being tested looked to be the model that’s sold outside the U.S. This is pertinent considering that a diesel engine is currently available for the Ford Ranger in some markets abroad. We can only hope this configuration makes its way here soon, and Ford will have another diesel truck in its lineup, this time in the midsize segment.
