2018 Ford Expedition full of a family

There are plenty of large SUVs on the road that promise plenty of interior space and comfort for families an individuals. Unfortunately, large vehicles often have problems delivering the safety ratings that parents want when transporting their kids (or, really, that anyone wants). So, is the 2018 Ford Expedition a safe vehicle? We are happy to announce that when it comes to governmental crash testing, the new Expedition is one of the safest vehicles in its segment.

Is the 2018 Ford Expedition a safe vehicle?

Thanks to a refined new fully boxed steel frame and extensive use of military-grade aluminum in its structure, the 2018 Ford Expedition was able to drop up to 325 pounds in this new model. This has given the new Expedition better balance and handling dynamics. It has also helped it earn a five-star rating in crash testing conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is the highest possible score in the New Car Assessment Program. The 2018 Expedition was also the only vehicle in its segment to take away an Overall Vehicle Score this good. When it comes to full-size SUVs, the all-new Expedition can offer some of the best crash safety on the road.

“As a father of four and longtime Expedition owner, safety was a top priority when engineering the entirely new Expedition,” said Andrew Kernahan, Ford Expedition chief program engineer, in a recent Ford press release. “We are proud of the many features Expedition offers today that help keep our customers safe on the road.”

Driver Assistance on the 2018 Expedition

In addition to a structural design that protects passengers in the event of a crash, the 2018 Ford Expedition is also available with several Ford safety features that can help minimize an accident. While this full-size SUV is not yet available with the full Ford Co-Pilot360 system that will be available later this year on select models, it is available with Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Cross-Traffic Alert, automatic high beams, and parking assistance. A standard feature on the 2018 Ford Expedition will also be seat belts with advanced tighteners so that in case of impact passengers will be pulled into the safest position to minimize injury.
